Welcome to B2L PoliticsWatch, a regular look at the political issues dominating the new post election world.
As readers will know, now is a fascinating time for anyone with an interest in British public affairs. To highlight just a few issues dominating the world of politics and policy-making...
The first coalition government since Winston Churchill, and already there are internal wranglings within the Conservative and Liberal Democrat parties - can David Cameron and Nick Clegg keep the coalition together the full five years and deliver its "freedom, fairness and responsibility" agenda? A leaderless Labour party searching for a new direction - who's going to pick up the reins come the leadership election on 25 September? A British public bracing itself for an 'age of austerity' the likes of which few will have experienced before - so what's going to be in the government's Emergency Budget on 22 June and the Comprehensive Spending Review in the autumn?
No one knows the answers to these questions not least, I suspect, the protagonists involved in making the decisions. Simply, there are so many inherent and indecipherable tensions in current political, economic and legislative developments that it's too early for anyone to know how all this will turn out.
B2L PoliticsWatch will be keeping an eye on the issues of the day, commentating and opining on the new politics and how it affects you, voters, business and political colleagues alike. I hope that the blog's readers - whether friends of B2L Public Affairs and Brands2Life with specific work-related interests, or those with just a general political curiosity - will find it useful (and occasionally entertaining!). Please do feel free to comment on the debate - with politics so alive and uncertain, there has rarely been a better time to join the battle of opinions and ideas.
